I used to make my own soap from the Fels Naptha, Borax and baking soda. But I also noticed that it didn't really seem to get my clothes clean. Plus, it wasn't that much cheaper than the Arm and Hammer. So, I went back to using that.

I tried the homemade laundry soap for a while too, and was not impressed. The clothes wouldn't come clean, and had a weird smell. I don't have an HE washer, just an older Kenmore series 90 model. So I gave up with the home made and went back to store detergents.

This is what I usually make. I add the Oxy Clean to mine and it smells great. I can't use perfumed detergents or it affects my allergies.

I love Oxy! It does wonders for getting stains and odors out.

Hey, I was just on another site and someone had plastic containers of dried and chopped "conkers". I recognized them as what we call "buckeyes". They chopped them, dehydrated them and store them for homemade soap. Supposedly you boil them and strain off the water. You do it about 3 times. The 3rd batch is the batch used for soap? Any experience with this?

The California Buckyeye pods are hard as a rock. I've tried soaking them and then planting down there, with no luck.
