Poultry math problem

Unread post by Old Fashioned » Mon May 20, 2019 6:08 pm

So I lost a hen the other day, not sure what happened and I'm down to 8 hens & 2 roos. Plus the 10 meaties. Then one hen is sitting on 12 eggs which brings my numbers up to 32 birds...RIGHT??? ok those meaties won't be around for long but still.

Then I went to the feed store for more food and they had BLACK SPANISH HERITAGE TURKEYS for half price (original $19.99 each) because they are about 2 weeks old. I asked to make sure the breed cause they usually carry Black Broad Breasted which are hybrids just like the Bronze & White and yes the Black BB's are a new breed and not that common. I'm thinking about 5 poults in the hopes of getting a couple hens, keep one jake for mating and butcher the other 2.

It is confirmed these are Heritage Black Spanish and my ears sure perked up and the want has set in (I want, I want, I want) I had to force myself to leave.

Hi, my name is Old Fashioned and I'm addicted to poultry. |em28|

..….so PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE somebody stop me going back tomorrow to get some. |em2|

I don't know how many times I've had to stop myself from buying chicks when I'm in TSC or when I get a notice that they have chicks at the one feed store-especially when it's a breed I'd like to add. But, I won't do it-not until I move.

The blacks are lovely birds...

Did I mention that I am getting $22.00 a DOZEN for fertile turkey eggs?

Time for some creative feeding. Anyway... those tiny little turkeys won't eat much ... at first.
