I wonder how an ice chest would work? They are insulated to a degree, though they don't hold much. And I'm talking regular ice chests, not the styrofoam type. You could layer in some straw & whatever produce. They even have a drain hole for any excess moisture |em22|

They make great feed bins... so why not! you could easy get a big extra piece of foam to put on the top. If you went ahead and did gravel under and around like the barrel idea it would last a LONG time.
