Our grocery bill has gone up 35% or more in 6 months. Worse we aren't buying nearly as much as we were 6 months ago. Almost all our vegetables for near 4 months were homegrown. It'll be near another year before we start supplying our own meat. Unless I suddenly grow fonder of chicken. Nothing much against it but far from a favorite.

I have a feeling we’re going to see a much larger portion of our incomes going to groceries in the very near future.

Yet another reason to put up whatever extras you can at this point in time. Seed shortages and crop failures with little to nothing in storage for this nation.

Great video Patrice. Really explains things well as far as the swine flu epidemic.

Notable... DO NOT buy products from Asia.

Especially dog treats and things like pig ears. The video links the swine flu virus to things like the pig ears. Also lots of products from Asia have ended up poisoning animals and even people! Think about the recalls of the past. Lead paint on baby toys from China. Contaminated pet treats.

I make it a personal practice to never buy made in China anything. They are our enemy and they don't even care about killing their own people. Why would they care about killing a lot of us?
Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
"Stop Dreaming About the Good Life and Start Living IT !"
Every little bit ... is a little bit.

Exactly FF, when a government doesn’t care about its own people, it certainly won’t care about people they export items to.

I try not to buy things made outside the US especially food products for us or Percy.

I found out the other day that foods including "fresh" meat can be labeled made in USA as long as the final packaging is done here regardless of where it came from! Which is just wrong...

Then there's also the question of just how much the US government cares about it's own people. We may handle it differently than places like China, but it still comes down to the same end result. So I'm not so sure just how safe it is to even buy 'Made in the USA', even with the FDA or USDA approval. |em3|

I've noticed prices have been going up by leaps & bounds around here. Though it seems it's taken longer to do so, than elsewhere.

Milk at one local Walmart was $1.78(?) a gallon for the longest time and is now about a dollar more. Other stores have increased about .50 per gallon. Bacon has been outrageous hovering somewhere around $3 to $5 a pound, depending on brand and now add about another $2 to that. Luckily the one store I go too for meat & produce had a sale on 10# boxes for about $15 each and I got 2 and canned it up, then a month later had another sale & I bought more and put in the freezer.

We will be and already are, eating from the pantry/freezer and buying less. Though I'm not sure if it would be smarter to keep buying now and save my stores, even with the rising prices. I don't want to run out of supply at home already if this is just the beginning. I may have to re-think my plan of attack.

As for other goods......last week I went to Fred Meyer to kill some time while #3 was in training...just to look around cause I rarely shop there. I don't know about the grocery prices cause I never made it to that side of the store.....but DAMN. I was checking out clothes & housewares and could not believe what I was seeing. I had always thought FM was along similar lines as Walmart, but apparently are more in competition with Nordstrom or Saks. Even their 'clearance' prices were more than I'd expect for brand new. I couldn't get out of there fast enough and didn't buy anything.

I’ve been noticing the prices jumping on everything too! I only buy whatever is on sale and also eating from my pantry more. I need to do some serious restocking of my pantry when my $$$ are less tight. I have 1 more payment to the attorney then I will have to get my leaking power steering cooler repaired before the pantry gets replenished.
