Easy Homemade Taco Seasoning

Unread post by patriceinil »

I finally created the perfect taco seasoning recipe!

1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp ground Guajillo pepper
1 1/2 tsp ground Ancho pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp dehydrated garlic bits
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp dried onion flakes
1/4 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp paprika
1 tsp ground black pepper

Blend together and add to 1 pound browned ground beef. Simmer a few minutes to bloom the spices. If your beef is really dry add a bit of water to help rehydrate the dried onions and garlic.

I bought the dried Guajillo and Ancho peppers at Aldi by the Hispanic foods and used a coffee grinder to grind them without the seeds.

Thanks for posting this. Now where to I find the Guajillo peppers? Aldi you say?

Yep, they were with the other dried peppers by the tortillas and other stuff in the Hispanic foods aisle.

The cumin that most recipes use causes me heartburn so I left that out. Even my son was surprised and said he really liked this recipe better than the last one I tried.

Guajillo peppers are very popular in Mexican cooking. They are almost always sold as a dry pepper the you toast to bring out the flavor. Then they soak them in boiling water to rehydrate them and then blend them in a blender or food processor to make a sauce with.

I love cumin seasoning. How much do you think it would take in this recipe? |em24|

Murph, I just posted a recipe that I used often. I think it tastes best as fresh, but I have canned it as well. Though I think I need to figure out some adjustments for the canned version. There are no measurements and you can add or tinker with it as you wish for your taste preferences.
