Do you use a heat mat for germination DD?

I haven't. I usually start enough trays to fill up a eight foot wide bay window about two and a half foot deep so that would take a lot of mats and money. Two years ago I closed it all in clear plastic and kept a heater running for six weeks. That cost a couple hundred bucks so I didn't this year. I got them started in some 27 gal totes with a grow light in them in a heated part of the house. That worked out pretty well but I won't have to do that next year since the Rocket mass heater will be heating up the bench all the plants will get started on to around a hundred degrees. Might have to insulate some of the trays some.

Have you ever seen the old BBC series "The Victorian Flower Garden"? They had a pretty interesting take on heating green houses. This is an excellent series BTW if you haven't seen it.
