Here’s what my cake with cream cheese icing looked like

It was very tasty especially with the cream cheese frosting but definitely not including the cloves next time

I can't stand cloves, so that would be a given for me. The rest of the cake sounds DELICIOUS!

This slow cooker cake recipe is very tasty and has a good texture. I let it cook for 2 hours but next time I’ll check it at an hour and fifty minutes. I apparently have a hot spot in one section of my cooker as the cake scorched a tiny bit at the edge.

I personally will omit the cloves next time. I don’t care for the flavor of cloves and even though I reduced the amount to half of an 1/8 tsp from the 1/4 tsp it called for in the recipe, it was still very strongly flavored of cloves. To me the cloves were an overpowering flavor in the cake.

I will also spray the parchment paper with cooking spray so it doesn’t stick to the paper next time.

I plan to ice it with a cream cheese icing after it cools down.

Slow Cooker Applesauce Spice Cake
PUBLISHED: DEC 31, 2011 Woman’s Day Magazine

Yields: 10
Prep Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 2 hrs 45 mins
Cal/Serv: 281

INGREDIENTS

* 2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 tsp. baking soda
* 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
* 1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
* 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
* tsp. kosher salt
* 1/2 cup unsalted butter
* 1/2 cup granulated sugar
* 1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
* 2 large eggs
* 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
* 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
* confectioners' sugar
* Ice cream

DIRECTIONS
* STEP 1
Place a 15-inch piece of parchment paper in the bowl of a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker, letting the excess come up the sides. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.
* STEP 2
Using an electric mixer, beat the butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then the applesauce and vanilla (the mixture will look curdled). Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the flour mixture, mixing until just incorporated.
* STEP 3
Transfer the batter to the prepared slow cooker and cook, covered, until set and a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean, 2 to 2 1/2 hours on high.
* STEP 4
Holding the parchment, transfer the cake to a rack and let cool for at least 15 minutes. Dust with the confectioners' sugar and serve with ice cream, if desired.
