Soup in general is a great money saver.

He used a variety of herbs cooked in the water for 5-6 minutes. Removed the herbs and added cracked oat groats to form a runny porridge style soup.

This may be something we will need to remember for in the future when times get extremely tight and we don’t have much in our pantry to get by on.
