Weird Baby Chick behavior

Unread post by Icu4dzs » Mon May 04, 2020 10:39 am

Need help with this one.
Yesterday, the hatch started 12 APRIL gave me 4 biddies (Right on schedule). Six still have not hatched...not sure that they will but I'll wait just a bit longer.
One of the biddies is really strange. I found it on its side, thrashes around a bit and unless I hold it to the water it can't seem to stand up or even sit in the head up position. This one lays on its side, and when I put it into a tea cup, it stays on its back with the head hyperextended over the edge of the tea cup. I tried to get it to "right itself" and it just won't. It also doesn't open its eyes.
So I guess the question is, "WTFO?" Is anything going to get this one to turn over or am I just beating my head into the wall, trying to save it? |em22| I didn't think it would survive the night but it has. It is now at least 24 hours old. The other three bonded with the 4 week olds and they are all doing fine. It's just this one that is driving me batty... |em3|

I am really at a loss on this one.
Anyone with any ideas? Please advise soonest.

I have no idea doc. I had one flat on its back in the incubator. I thought it was a goner. My friend told me about the beer glass method for splay leg. I thought it had a bunch of other issues. But I tried the glass. 3 15 min sessions in one day. it was fine. Now you wouldn’t even know it had issues.,

Maybe your chick has a malformation?

This is good information. I have had this several times and never had a means to try to help. The issues are caused by slight fluctuations in heat and humidity when incubating.

thanks. The heat issue is what I suspected. I'm trying to keep this one alive. I appreciate your input.

Same thing happened with my last one.
