For years I would buy the premade, frozen packages. The boys loved them and could eat a whole package each. Then Ii did some searching for a homemade version. I think I settled on one from AllRecipes, but did a bit of tweaking and this is what I came up with. It's truly a family favorite, even hubs likes it.
Salisbury Steaks with Mushroom Onion Gravy
1lb burger
1pkg dry onion soup
1 qt beef bone broth
1/2lb sliced mushrooms
2 eggs
1/2 C bread crumbs
1 or 2 T butter
1/2 - 1 tsp Worchestershire sauce
3 or 4 T flour
salt & pepper
Mix onion soup mix with broth & set aside. Mix burger, bread crumbs, eggs, salt, pepper and about 1/3 C soup. Shape into patties. In large skillet cook patties till done & browned on both sides. Transfer to a plate. In skillet drippings add butter and mushrooms & stir to cook a bit. Add flour & Worchestershire sauce to remaining soup mix & stir to get rid of lumps. Add to the mushrooms in the skillet & heat till thickened & bubbly. Add back the burger patties & cook a few minutes more.
This should make about 6 good sized patties, depending on how big or small you make them. Hubs & I ate one each and the boys had 2 each and we're all stuffed.
......oops, This recipe is written correctly, but I keep putting the Worchestershire sauce in the burger instead of the gravy....either way, it's still delish
