My dad used to make that, but it was served over toast. He said it was an Army dish called "sh_ _ on a shingle"!

I think it's only called that when it's made w/dried beef. I could be wrong.

You are probably technically right, but Dad called the hamburger version the same thing.

I have a jar of that dried beef in my pantry. Mother used to make "creamed chipped beef" and put it on toast. We loved it!
Found water and ------better weather, yeah, maybe not.....

I think both versions are accepted as SOS. I've usually made the hamburger version & we love it....especially the boys. They will scarf down every last bit.
Last year I had tried the dried beef version just to be technically correct  and see if it was any different........it was okay, but we prefer the burger.

Tonights meal is going to be what I'm calling 'Buffalo Runs' maybe with some tater tots and a big green salad & carrot & celery sticks.

What are 'Buffalo Runs' you ask? Well I had picked up some 'Hooters' breading mix and a jar of sauce for Buffalo Wings, but the price of wings anymore is outrageous so I bought some drumsticks instead

All this talk of SOS is making me hungry for it........that may be for tomorrow night |em24|

I like it w/the dried beef, but it has a lot of salt, so I have to watch it.

Yes, the dried beef is salty. Especially when you forget to rinse it off first... Not that I've done that or anything... |em28|

Tonight we are having cheeseburger roll-up, which is just bread dough rolled into a rectangle and then topped with meat and cheese, rolled up jelly-roll style and baked. Also, I was supposed to make bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers, but I forgot to pick up the jalapeños, so I just sliced up a couple green bell peppers, spread a cream cheese mixture on them, and then wrapped in bacon. They are in the refrigerator waiting to be baked. I hope they turn out half-way decent.

Oooops, I lied. Not sure what happened, since I was really liking the idea of homemade chili.....but for some reason I forgot to get the beans soaking. Sure I could do the quick method & still get a respectable meal........but I'll save that for tomorrow night instead. Tonight I'll do a baked/roasted chicken with smashed taters, gravy, corn & maybe some biscuits. I might even get the urge to make a pie or something for dessert |em24| Blueberry or Cherry???
